The newer Church of Yaala (1878) was erected from wood in an unusual neo -Gothic style. The brick church of Valkeal resembles medieval castles, although they built it in the 30s of the XIX century.
A whole quarter was preserved in Kuovol, built up in 1900 with wooden houses intended for railway workers and their families. Now they housed museums and artisan shops.
